UVA Update

The University of Virginia continues to celebrate the amazing achievements of its faculty members and its resident physicians, who have proved to be great leaders in the field of psychiatry.
We would like to start by congratulating Dr. Marie Lyse Turk and Dr. Joshua Smith for being elected as chief residents for the 2018-2019 academic year. Dr. Marie Lyse Turk received two appreciation awards during the 2018 PSV Spring Meeting, for her help in planning the meeting and for recruiting new UVA members to the Psychiatric Society of Virginia.
Dr. Joshua Smith also received a fellowship at the Academic Society of Psychopharmacology. Dr. Joseph Ipacs was also nominated for the Mulholland Teaching Award which acknowledges and recognizes the educational contributions of UVA residents and their outstanding teaching of staff and medical students.
Our department is also happy to announce that Dr. Gabrielle Marzani-Nissen was chosen for the "Best Doctors in America" list.
Dr. Roger Burket was accepted into the Academy of Distinguished Educators.
Dr. Joanna Yost was appointed the Social Media Chair for the Association of Psychologists in Academic Health Centers.
Dr. Heather Bruschwein was appointed as Chair of the Virginia Academy of Clinical Psychologists in the political action committee.
Last but not least, Dr. Larry Merkel received a 2017 Master Educator Award for his excellence in teaching residents and his dedication to the field of psychiatry.
