Several PSV members attended White Coats on Call this year with the Medical Society of Virginia. Physicians and students spent the morning at the General Assembly building in Richmond meeting with legislators. They discussed a range of issues including:
Certificate of Public Need (COPN)
COPN was the focus of healthcare legislation during the 2016 session. There were numerous bills filed to reform the current process. While reform didn't happen this year, COPN will once again be a major focus in 2017.
Step Therapy
Several bills dealing with step therapy were introduced. These bills sought to either streamline the process or prohibit step therapy all together. These bills were not successful but will return in 2018.
Thanks to all who participated in our White Coats on Call day and to all of those who assisted with PSV's legislative priorities.

I wanted to pass along to all of you that Alyssa and I had a wonderful and productive day in Richmond at the General Assembly. We met with our State Senator Lynnwood Lewis (see below), the aid to our representative Delegate Robert Bloxom. We discussed the need for increased money in mental health as well as ways to encourage the opening of more psychiatric facilities. Later in the morning, we joined forces with the residents from VCU Psych and met with even more delegates. All in all, it was very productive. Alyssa and I both agree that we learned a lot, and the day left us wanting to get more involved in advocacy.
