PSV Association Manager
On July 24, 2019, PSV's Andrew Mann, along with Dr. Stephen Cunningham, PSV President Elect, and lobbyist James Pickral, from Commonwealth Strategy Group, met with EVMS residents and medical students over lunch, to discuss PSV and APA membership, as well as legislative and advocacy affairs. Special guest, Delegate Glenn Davis (R-Virginia Beach), joined us to offer his perspective as a legislator in the House of Delegates. He thanked the residents and students of EVMS for their work and service and encouraged them to contact their legislator to share their medical and healthcare expertise. There was discussion about what healthcare issues and policies the residents cared most about and on the recent General Assembly special session that Governor Northam called to address gun control. Other legislative, regulatory and policy highlights included mid-level provider expansion efforts, balanced billing, certificate of public need reform, the Deeds Commission, and behavioral health hospital and mental health system reform. Finally, we highlighted the importance of this year's elections, where all 140 seats of the legislature will be on the ballot. Residents heard about how important and easy it is to get involved in PSV and policy advocacy. We enjoyed our visit at EVMS and look forward to having EVMS represented during the poster session at the PSV Fall Meeting in October.
