Please join me in welcoming Varun Choudhary, MD, MA, DFAPA to Magellan’s clinical team. Dr. Choudhary has accepted the position of SVP/CMO for Behavioral Health, reporting to me, effective June 24, 2019. In this position, he is responsible for directing and leading medical management strategy and operations of all aspects of behavioral and specialty health. He will provide overall strategic direction and oversight of national comprehensive medical policy and programs to include contributions to the development, implementation and evaluation of the clinical and cost effectiveness of medical services. In addition, he will provide collaborative support for the senior sales team, including sales with on-site meeting support, clinical oversight and collaborative support of the account management, clinical direction, cost of care and quality improvement for managed care and employer business.
With Dr. Choudhary’s arrival, we will complete the alignment of medical services. Reporting to Dr. Choudhary will be Dr. Shareh Ghani, Dr. Lou Parrott, and Dr. Steve Jenkusky. Effective immediately, Dr. Steven Pratt and Dr. Richard Dalton will begin reporting to Dr. Parrott, aligning the CCOE and public sector medical practices.
Some of you may remember Dr. Choudhary from his time as the Medical Director for Magellan of Virginia and his work with Magellan Complete Care of Florida as an Affiliate Medical Director. Dr. Choudhary comes back to us from his recent position as the VP, Corporate Medical Director for WellCare Health Plans. He also brings with him experience from his work on behavioral health integration & care coordination as the Chief Medical Officer for Good Neighbor Community Services. He was also a consultant with Mindoula Health where he has focused on collaborative care with primary care integration through technology enabled solutions. I know these skills will be instrumental in supporting the provider strategy and value-based programs, sales and account management, technology and innovation, strategic business and product development.

Hampton VA Medical Center RTMS Clinic
Hampton VA Medical Center RTMS Clinic celebrated its first anniversary of operation in April 2019. Deep brain repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation for treatment resistant depressive disorders has been successfuly applied to over 45 veterans. The clinic is under the direction of Kenneth J. Miller, MD, DLFAPA, DANPA. Fifteen providers, including staff psychiatrists, psychiatric residents, registered nurses and psych techs, have been trained. The mission is to expand RTMS services throughout Hampton Roads and the VA VISN. Hampton VA Medical Center RTMS Clinic is part of the National Clinical RTMS Study.

Faisal Mohsin, MD has attained board certification through the American Board Of Preventative Medicine (ABPM) in Addiction Medicine in January 2019. Dr. Mohsin works at the Hampton Newport News Community Services Board.
