Physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants may now register with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy to provide their patients with a valid written certification for the use of medical cannabis to treat or to alleviate the symptoms of any diagnosed condition or disease determined by the practitioner to benefit from such use. This is the result of legislation over the past several years, allowing five licensed pharmaceutical processors to come to Virginia to open facilities and manufacture medical CBD and THC-A oil exclusively for medical use for patients.
The Virginia Medical Cannabis Coalition (VMCC) looks forward to working with medical professionals and pharmacists across the Commonwealth to provide a safe and effective medical cannabis option for those suffering from chronic debilitating conditions.
In order to participate in the program, physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants must register with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy to write certifications for patients, for the use of medical cannabis, to treat or alleviate the symptoms of any diagnosed condition or disease determined by the practitioner to benefit from such use. In addition, the patient will be required to register with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy in order to carry the valid written certification provided by you, their physician, for affirmative defense.
The VMCC looks forward to working with psychiatrists and other medical professionals around Virginia to educate and provide outreach opportunities surrounding the program. If you would like to be connected with your regional licensed medical cannabis processor, or would like any further information, please email the VMCC at [email protected].
You may also find specific information on registration and FAQs for both medical professionals and patients on our website: www.vmccoalition.org and @vmccoalition on Facebook and Twitter.
Finally, we invite you to join us for The Growth of Virginia’s Medical Cannabis Program, December 10th, at the Omni Richmond Hotel to learn more!
