Treehouse Child Psychiatry News

By Michael Heck, DO

Treehouse Child Psychiatry in Charlottesville, Virginia, which was started in 2017 by Michael Heck, DO, is celebrating its 3rd anniversary by announcing the purchase of a new office space at 1410 Incarnation Drive Suite 206 in Charlottesville, Virginia. The new office will allow the burgeoning practice the space it needs as it grows in the coming year.

Treehouse Child Psychiatry is also excited to announce the addition of a nurse practitioner, Julie Roebuck, to the team. Julie is a board-certified Child and Family Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. Mrs. Roebuck received her BS in Nursing from the University of Virginia.  She also received a Master’s degree (MSN) as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Child and Adolescent Mental Health followed by a Post-Master’s degree (Post-MSN) as a Child and Family Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, both at the University of Virginia.  Currently, Mrs. Roebuck is a Doctoral candidate at the University of Virginia and anticipates successful completion of her Doctorate later this year. Mrs. Roebuck’s clinical experience includes many years of providing psychiatric care and mental health treatment for children, adolescents and adults within acute settings, outpatient settings as well as private practice.

In addition to her work at Treehouse Child Psychiatry, Mrs. Roebuck is a faculty member at the University of Virginia School of Nursing and is passionate about the education to her undergraduate and graduate students. She also enjoys providing clinical coverage for the Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents.

In addition, Treehouse Child Psychiatry is also happy to announce that a wonderful behavior analyst, Kate Patterson, has joined the Treehouse family. Ms. Patterson is a Board-Certified and Licensed Behavior Analyst. She received a BA in English from Brigham Young University and a MSEd in Special Education-Severe Need from Simmons College. She went on to receive a Graduate Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis from Brandman University. Ms. Patterson has practiced Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for the last 15 years across various settings, including private day and residential schools, a therapeutic preschool, and in clients’ homes.

She practices a holistic, family-centered approach to behavior therapy, integrating natural supports and up-to-date behavior analytic interventions individually designed for each client. She has worked with clients diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, Traumatic Brain Injury, and other mental health diagnoses. Ms. Patterson is happy to be joining the Treehouse Child Psychiatry Team and looks forward to providing Behavior Analytic consultations, Parent Training, and behavior therapy addressing disruptive behavior reduction and skill acquisition. Her clinical training has been with infants, children, adolescents, and young adults ages 15 months to 21 years old. Her areas of interest in ABA include Verbal Behavior, Functional Behavior Analysis, and Daily Living Skills training.
