Everything Isn't Terrible: Conquer Your Insecurities, Interrupt Your Anxieties, and Finally Calm Down by Dr. Kathleen Smith, is an unexpected dive into the complexities of Bowen Theory- a well-established branch of human behavior theory. One of the difficulties about further specializing in a field of study is making your work accessible to those outside of your unique niche. Dr. Kathleen Smith, a licensed therapist and associate faculty member at the Bowen Center for Family Study, has flawlessly accomplished this goal in her book.
The reader does not need any previous study in therapy to understand Bowen theory and how to apply it to decrease anxiety. The accessibility of this book makes it perfect for medical students, psychiatry residents, and psychiatrists who are looking for non-pharmacologic ways to help patients decrease anxiety - a hefty task in today's uncertain world. The Psychiatric Society of Virginia is delighted to announce that Dr. Smith will be speaking at our Fall 2020 meeting. Members of the society are highly encouraged to pick up her book this summer and learn why everything isn't terrible.
