Residents and faculty in the Virginia Tech Carilion Clinic Department of Psychiatry have several recent achievements to share with the PSV.

Many congratulations go out to second-year resident Dr. Ayotunde Ayobello who received a Gold Humanism Honor Society Excellence in Teaching Award. Dr. Ayobello was selected by the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM) Class of 2019 for this honor. He is also a talented artist and received Best of Show in the Carilion Clinic Employee Art Show for his painting "Contemplation" in the amateur category.

Residents represented Carilion Clinic at the 2018 APA Annual Meeting in New York City in May, including Dr. Sahar Alee Koloukani, Dr. Erin Hayes, Dr. Ali Najafian Jazi, Dr. Elham Rahmani, and Dr. Badr Ratnakaran, along with Dr. Aakash Verma (Carilion Clinic psychiatry alumnus class of 2017). Dr. Jazi's poster presentation "Cognitive Deficits and Metabolic Parameters in Veterans" and Dr. Ratnakaran's poster presentation "A Narrative Review of Suicide in Art" were presented. Dr. Sahar Alee Koloukani acted as an APA Scholar. Carilion Clinic Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Chair Dr. Robert L. Trestman presented a workshop titled "Update from the Council on Psychiatry and Law."

We congratulate Dr. Caleb Pagliasotti and Dr. Randy McKenzie who were elected as administrative and academic chief residents, respectively, for the 2018-2019 academic year. Dr. Pagliasotti was also nominated by the VTCSOM Class of 2019 for the Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award (HETA), an award which he also received last year!

Faculty who have been honored recently include faculty member Dr. William Rea who received second place in the Carilion Clinic Employee Art Show in the adult intermediate category for his oil painting “Dawn, Delaware River.”

Dr. David Trinkle received the Babe and Sidney Louis Memorial Award from the Local Office on Aging (LOA) for outstanding philanthropy in honor of his work in geriatric psychiatry with community organizations.

On May 16th, 2018, Psychiatric Times published an article by child and adolescent psychiatrist Dr. Eric Vance titled, "Can we prescribe resilience?"

We welcome our new PGY-1 resident class, and look forward to an outstanding year ahead!
