Annual Membership Survey
NAMI Virginia is conducting its 2018 Membership Survey on Access and Priorities through August 31. We use the results of this annual survey to set our legislative and policy advocacy priorities, get essential direct feedback from members on their experiences accessing mental healthcare for themselves and their loved ones, and hear what’s important to them and their communities with respect to mental health services and supports. The survey is available to NAMI Virginia members only and can be accessed here. If you are not currently a NAMI member and would like to join, or if your membership has lapsed, please visit here.
Updated NAMI Virginia Guide to Helping an Individual Through a Psychiatric Crisis
NAMI Virginia has updated its popular Guide to Helping an Individual Through a Psychiatric Crisis for 2018. The Guide is a no-cost resource for friends and family members of individuals experiencing a psychiatric crisis that provides information in a “Frequently Asked Questions” format about the steps they can take to assist their loved one through the crisis. The Guide includes information such as how the Emergency Custody Order, Temporary Detention Order and involuntary commitment processes work, how friends/family members can help their loved ones during and after the crisis, how they can care for themselves during the process, and contact numbers for each community services board’s mental health emergency service. The Guide is available on NAMI Virginia’s website in English here and the Spanish version is here.
NAMIWalks Virginia
NAMI Virginia is gearing up for NAMIWalks Virginia, one of the largest mental health awareness events in the Commonwealth and the largest annual fundraiser for NAMI Virginia. This year, NAMIWalks Virginia will be held on Saturday, September 22, at North Shore Commons in Glen Allen (more information here. We expect more than 1,500 attendees to participate in this celebration of mental health recovery and to connect with others across the Commonwealth who are “walking the walk” of mental health recovery. NAMI Virginia hopes to raise $210,000 through this year’s walk, essential funding which supports its operations and that of its network of affiliates around the state. If you would like to make a donation to NAMIWalks Virginia, please visit here. Your gift will help NAMI Virginia strengthen its mission of support, education, and advocacy. As always, we greatly appreciate the support of PSV and its members in meeting our misson!
