HCA LewisGale Medical Center
Salem, Virginia
On July 2 of this year, the newest class of psychiatry residents in the state of Virginia began their training at HCA LewisGale Medical Center in Salem, Virginia. The new training program there will matriculate eight residents per year and provide rotations at that facility as well as the VA Medical Center in Salem, Catawba Hospital and several facilities in Richmond. HCA LewisGale has current academic affiliations with VCOM, LUCOM, and UVA. The program is led by a group of “seasoned” (not old) academic psychiatrists who have served in many similar capacities over the years – namely Dr. Brian Wood (past president of PSV) , Program Director and Chair, and Dr. Kelly Moles, Associate Program Director. Ms. Shannon Sampson (not nearly as “seasoned”) serves as the program coordinator. Residents were chosen from numerous applicants after the NRMP match and represent multiple medical colleges including VCOM, EVMS and several others. We look forward to a great start and a long future with HCA LewisGale. If anyone would like more information or has questions, please feel free to contact me. I would love to talk more about our plans for fantastic upcoming additions to PSV!
