On August 3, PSV hosted lunch for VCU residents who met with representatives from PSV and Commonwealth Strategy Group, PSV's government relations team. Andrew Mann from PSV, James Pickral and State Senator Jennifer McClellan hosted the event. We discussed several legislative, regulatory and policy highlights, including Medicaid expansion, nurse practitioner independent practice, medical cannabis and pharmaceutical processors, and new requirements for hospitals providing inpatient psychiatric services involving toxicology screenings and admissions. We shared how important and easy it is to get involved in PSV and policy advocacy. We were joined by special guest Senator Jennifer McClellan (D-Richmond), who offered her perspective as a legislator in the Senate of Virginia and answered questions. She thanked the residents and VCU for their work and service, and offered ways that they can engage in the legislative process to share their medical and healthcare expertise to inform state policy. PSV thanks VCU/MCV, the residents, and Sen. McClellan for a great conversation! We really enjoyed having PSV visit and are looking forward to the upcoming PSV Fall Meeting in September.
In other news, the year is off to a great start and we have an exceptional group of interns who started in July. We anticipate a productive year as several residents are excited about getting involved with APA and PSV.
