Outgoing PSV President
I want to thank the Psychiatric Society of Virginia’s Board of Directors and Membership for the opportunity to serve as your 2018-2019 President. This was a wonderful leadership opportunity and I truly am grateful to have served you in this capacity. Looking back on the year, the one thing I am most proud of was being Program Chair for the Fall 2018 Meeting: Fighting Stigma in Mental Health Care. We heard a diverse group of speakers discuss various forms of stigma from many different perspectives. While all the speakers discussed a different topic area, each lecture fit so nicely within the theme of decreasing stigma. This conference may have seemed even more magical to me due to the “Queen City Mischief and Magic Festival” happening at the same time in Staunton, VA. I appreciate the members who helped plan this conference, and especially the speakers who joined us that weekend. There was also a large number of trainees who attended the workshops and presented posters at the meeting.
As I leave this leadership position, I urge the membership to remain active in PSV. We need our members to help us advocate for our profession and our patients. You can do this by meeting local legislators and attending advocacy events, or simply donating money to the PSV-PAC. You don’t necessarily need to have a loud voice to be a strong advocate, and I want you to know that each member can make a difference. Please consider joining the Medical Society of Virginia so that the PSV has a louder voice within the medical community of Virginia. And, you as PSV members are always invited to the Board of Director meetings, if interested. Feel free to email Andrew Mann, our Association Manager, at [email protected] for more details.
Thanks again for a wonderful year. I am truly honored to have served you.
