In the light of the uncertainty of COVID-19, Centra and Piedmont Psychiatric Center are trying to keep the practice safe and running.
Thanks to Telehealth, we and our patients were able to quickly get on to the platform. We are using Zoom for healthcare, and its HIPPA compliant and user-friendly application. Practice Guidance for COVID-19 from APA is helpful, especially in regard with HIPPA regulations during this pandemic.
We are not only able to continue seeing the regular medication follow-up patients, but our opioid use disorder patients for suboxone treatments. This is very important for them as they are most vulnerable for relapse during this stressful period. ASAM guideline suggests that OUD patients should not be called in for drug testing as well and home drug testing should be done. We are following those guidelines for now, unless in extreme conditions.
Last but not least, psychiatrists are helping other front line providers to manage the physician burn-out and stress associated with the uncertainty and mortality with this COVID-19.
I hope, the virus will soon be contained and we will resume our daily routine. Until then, stay safe.
