COVID-19 alert everyone! We have to keep our patients safe! Wait, we cannot forget how crucial it is to keep our healthcare providers safe as well in order to do so.
In the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic, UVA has been working on transitioning to a new system, where we have been actively utilizing telemedicine to minimize the direct contact between patients and the attendings/residents. On the consult and inpatient services, we have minimized the number of in-house residents and faculty and, have been using electronic devices to do teleconferencing for daily rounds and also to see new consults. Outpatient clinics have transitioned to providing patient care via telehealth services and, the majority of the PGY-3 residents are able to see their patients from the safety of their homes while continuing to have supervision and staffing by faculty. We hope that this endeavor keeps both the healthcare providers and patients safe and helps the community to keep the virus under control.
We would also like to welcome our new group of interns who will start their training at UVA in this upcoming academic year: Dr. Mohamed Ahmed, Dr. Pooja Amin, Dr. Isabelle Duerr, Dr. John Keku, Dr. Kirsten Olivier, Dr. Jaime Osinovsky, Dr. William Parker, Dr. Gabriel Rivera Delgado, Dr. Anjali Shankar and Dr. Breanna Zehnder. We are certain they will shine at UVA!
While we are excited about our incoming PGY-1s, we will certainly miss those residents who are graduating this year: Drs. Yusuf Azim, Andrea Bennett, Adam Colbert, Joseph Ipacs, Lauren Mahoney, Orlando Ramos, Lauren Solometo and Matthew Vanden Hoek. We are very grateful for their mentorship during residency. We are proud of them and wish them the best in the future.
