As you know, the General Assembly convened a Special Session this year to address the state budget, COVID-19, criminal justice and police reform, election security and voter protection. Important issues related to the healthcare workforce were addressed. These remain unprecedented and challenging times. Your government affairs team continues to closely follow every action of Governor Northam’s administration in response to the COVID-19 crisis and the immediate or potential impact on physicians and patients.
It is important we remain vigilant and prepared. As described in our legislative updates, it was a busy and productive year for the physician and psychiatric community. Our advocacy resources must remain strong not only during the pandemic but also for when it ends. As you know, a well-resourced PAC allows us to support legislators who support our profession and patients, introduce us to new legislators, and engage in leadership and caucus giving so that PSV’s voice is at the table as part of a comprehensive government relations strategy.
We are preparing for another active Regular Session next year, including priorities on prior authorization reform and telehealth access. In addition, 2021 is a major election year in Virginia. The offices of Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General and all 100 seats in the House of Delegates will be on the ballot. Help us strengthen relationships with returning policymakers and build relationships with new ones.
Please make a contribution to PsychMD PAC to demonstrate our leadership in healthcare, especially as COVID-19 continues to take a terrible toll on the mental and behavioral health of Virginians around the Commonwealth.
