July! It is an exciting time across the country as new medical residents begin their first steps of training in their chosen fields. Here at EVMS, many of these excited, freshly minted doctors will embark on post student training. We, in the department of Psychiatry, are especially excited about the addition of four fresh faces to our relatively small, but close-knit, group of residents. Dr. Ryan Wade, Dr. Kassimer Thompson, Dr. Michael Bolten and Dr. Nithya Cherukuru will be joining the team, making up the PGY1 class. I'm sure they find themselves a bit nervous, but also eager to tackle the challenges that await. Without a doubt, they must be thrilled that after four hard years as medical students they can finally stop and think, "Wow, I am actually a doctor now!" While these new additions come in, unfortunately we must say goodbye to a few of our graduates, as well. We will miss Dr. Vintee Narang, Dr. Jordan Romero, Dr. Jamie Kerr and Dr. Syeda Younus. Though we are disappointed to see them leave, their departure is actually a cause for celebration, as we know the impact they will make moving forward into the local community, along the east coast or even across the country helping people, and improving the lives of patients every day.
So, on the cycle goes, some new faces, some the same, but all with new roles and new responsibilities, new rotations and new experiences. Regardless of the changes, our main goal remains the same: work together to become the best physicians we can and in turn make a difference for those who may need our help. We continue this adventure at EVMS.
