As was said so many years ago, “Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.”
The recent act of senseless violence in Orlando in the early morning of June 12th calls to mind other similar tragedies at the hands of deranged individuals who, while certainly far from normal, may or may not be mentally ill per se. Whether they are considered criminally insane, terrorists, sociopaths or merely criminals, one thing is certain. The horrific carnage they carried out was facilitated by using highly mechanized weapons. Clearly, then, the APA’s advocacy of funding for research into the causes and prevention of gun violence through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is a position we should all be able to support.
